Re: RickW Ph18

I would lay some glass. 1/4" seems too much for fairing compound but would work with woodflour/resin mix. A little glass saves resin. Wait for others' ideas.

Re: Okume vs Merranti wood

Meranti wouldn't make the bow curves on the LB22. I had to aggressively kerf it but that's completely doable. I liked working with Okume more though and would lean that way probably. Sadly, $800 is a big piece of the budget for the build, but, still, every dollar counts. 'd definately use Okume on a...

Re: C19 First time boat build questions

"Firstly, I'd like to know about the precision of layouts. How precise should my measurements be, and which parts are the most crucial to get perfectly accurate? I began by laying out bulkhead B, and I want to ensure everything is correct before proceeding with the cutout." I just used a s...

Re: RickW Ph18

40 grit would be too much for me. I used 80 and 60 now and then. Really the 80 with my RO seems pretty potent.

Re: Peel ply vs plastic

I don't know enough but I think there's a big difference as I've use both briefly. Plastic left my epoxy oddly smooth and needing sanding, while peel ply left a surface with some tooth. I didn't like the plastic. Dunno if either of them prevents blush. My way to prevent blush its to use Marinepoxy s...

Re: building xf20

Most of this is over my head. It does seem overly complicated to me given this is a day use boat. Why not an AGM start battery and a light lithium ion for the house. No on board charger. I just hook my batteries up to their chargers the day before. Never takes more than 2 or 3 hrs. I have a simple, ...
