Re: johnnemo GF16
Decided to cut the transom straight today. I need to replicate it (2) more times for 3 layers of 3/8" ply. This is a variation of the plans b/c I used 3/8 for the hull and all parts. My plans are to double the bow too. I used the blades that 'sds' recommended and the tear out was far less than ...

Re: GF16 - Curved vs Straight Transom
Many thanks CL. Going to make my cuts now. By the way, what are you doing in front of the computer on a day like today?

GF16 - Curved vs Straight Transom
I posted these questions under my build, but didn't get a response. Did I post in the wrong place? Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer advice on the following.... I started drawing and cutting out the transom today. I noticed that in the plans the top edges look more like an arch/curve than st...

Flush Deck GF16
Can the GF16 be built with a flush deck? If so, has anyone done it yet?
Thinking about mounting a bow mount trolling motor on mine and it sure would make life easier.

Re: johnnemo GF16
I started drawing and cutting out the transom today. I noticed that in the plans the top edges look more like an arch/curve than straight lines. 1. Is the curve at the top edges of the transom functional in any way or is it just for looks. 2. Did anyone just cut a straight line? 3. Did I miss the me...

Re: johnnemo GF16
sds,
I picked up some T101AO blades at the big box store and will give it a try today. If thats not good enough I will order some of the inserts 'gstanfield' recommended.
This forum is great. Thanks to all that contribute!

Re: johnnemo GF16
I cut a few seats tonight and used the jig saw for the first time. I was disappointed in the tear out, even though I thought I selected the right blade. :( I varied the speed and it didn't seem to have any effect. Any suggestions on blades? Its a Bosch top-handle. What other tools are builders using...

Re: johnnemo GF16
I found that all the sheets of my plywood are 1/8" longer than 8'. I think someone mentioned this a while back so I checked before laying out my panels. This could cause a few headaches if you didn't know 8O http://gallery.bateau2.com/albums/userpics/23667/DSC_0513.JPG Also, I read on a woodwor...

Re: A Cracker built FS18
CL, Can't wait to hear what you think about the FS 18. I agonized over the FS 18 vs GF 16 for coastal SC fishing. Is there anyone else who has built them both? I guess if I didn't get it right the first time, it will be a good excuse to build another boat. I must admit that the XF 20 caught my...

Re: johnnemo GF16
Robbiro, thanks for pointing me in right direction with the Diablo blade. I never would have thought that cutting plywood with a circular saw would be so easy. This setup cut through 3/8" Hydrotech like butter. I set the blade about 1/16" below the ply and supported the entire sheet with 4...
