Re: Pilothouse Top Finishing HMD19
Based on my P19 roof, you will be hard pressed (no pun intended) to bend that thing into place without putting in the camber first. That roof gets mighty stiff.

Re: Transom mount trolling motor
Mounting on the transom is somewhat of a compromise, because it is much easier to pull the boat into the breeze than push it. Almost as important on the stern is how you will control the direction. You will be constantly correcting for the bow drift with motor adjustments. If you are thinking of man...

Re: P19 engine bracket
Greetings Gundarsaurus, Glad to see another P19 coming along. Be glad to share any info I can along the way. My P19 went from start to launch in 5.5 months of full time, hard work, doing everything myself. I did use a precut kit, but had to back up a couple times to correct mistakes. While it is not...

Re: P19 engine bracket
What you suggest is certainly possible, since I saw 19' pilot house at the Maine boat show a few years back that used a motor bracket. I think it came from a builder on Cranberry Island. If you go that way be sure to check with Jacques about the transom design. The lazaretts (sp?) are an important s...

Re: Hm19 vs p19 seaworthiness
I have run my P19 off the coast of Maine for several years. It is possible to run 18-20 mph in a 1 ft chop fairly comfortably, but not in a 2' chop. The large volume in the bow of the P19 rules makes for a very hard ride when the conditions are rough. I assume that the ride on the HM19 would be even...

Re: Insurance
The boat insurance was a little hassle for me with Liberty Mutual as well, but not too bad. The key seemed to be that I assembled the boat from a professionally designed kit, not that it was something I dreamed up on the garage floor. A couple years ago both Texas and Maine coverages were changed su...

Re: Biscuit's Panga 22 build
As for the bright work....my P19 had a lot 6 yrs ago when it was launched. I was encouraged by the success I had with a number a kayaks. However, kayaks don't sit out on the mooring all summer or on a trailer all winter. By the end of this June I hope to see the last of the bright work disappear ben...

Re: Joe's P19
I'll be back in Maine about May 1st. Time to repaint the bottom on the p19 and touch up the decks. This is the last boat I ever put a lot of bright work on. I am too embarrassed to send you a photo of my cabin after seeing what yours looks like. I know what you mean about the canvas costs. I gave up...

Re: Joe's P19
I also like the windlass idea, if I can find some way to deal with the mooring line without going forward. It seems to make more sense with every passing year. I am waiting for the results. Keep in mind, whatever you put the rode into had best drain into the bilge. That rope and chain carries a lot ...

Re: Weight of a Novi 23. finished.
I think Jacques may have understated the problem. I knew I was going to be towing my P19 across the country a number of times and built the boat with a careful eye toward the weight. It was my fifth stitch and glue boat, so I was able to hold pretty close to the 50% fill factor with no extra glass. ...
