Thanks for clearing that up....what should I assume for the weight of your MarineEpoxy? I have heard 8lbs. With one done, I want to do a better job this time. I want a light PK78.

C19 cockpit

I was on a 20' Angler FX recently and took a few measurements. I was wondering how it would compare to the C19. At the aft side of the console, the sole was 6 ft wide and the space between the console and gunwales was about 18". The full beam at this point was about 7'8". How would this co...

40% glass content - what does this mean?

My PK78 build plans assume 40% glass content for weight estimates but says some builders can reach 55-60%. Glass wieght is by the sq yd I think. 6oz glass weighs 6oz per sq yd. So after wetting out with epoxy, if I add 6oz to the weight of the cloth, I would be at 50% glass content? If I use more ep...

Weight of epoxy vs wood

It doesnt make alot of sense, but the best place to ask designers to answer questions about plans is to ask in the forum "questions before buying plans". There is no forum for "questions about the plans, after you buy the plans". Power boats section is for documenting your build ...

Hey Ted, Congralations for getting that done! I assume when you say you have taped the outside joints, you mean duct tape.... After you get the panels stitched, you flip the hull over check for square and assuming all is good, start building the inside seams. Normally, yes would mix the resin and ha...

Woodboat - as you seem to discovering, you need to be careful about reading to much into the manufacturers marketing and specs. I dont know so much about engines, but I know about marketing. You are right to ask for others experiences and get to the core differentiators. I read this thread with grea...

my oar blades are split, they are getting glassed
I want to try that white graphite all over the outside of my next dingy, incl the rubrails. I dont know if the black graphite would leave black marks when you hit something else or not.

alot of stuff here. all seems like good answers.

wrto acetone, I didnt use it at first, but people here seem to use it with no ill effect. It evaporates off the surface fast and is good for cleaning the surface.
