what is the benefit of glassing with epoxy-silicate vs neat?

I have a pretty good deal on a johnson 25 but it is long shaft. I want to use it on my gf16. any problems in using it over a shorter shaft motor?

Has anyone installed and use stick steer on their gf16? Got any pics/ Thanks in advance...
