Re: C19 in Richmond, VA

I took VT Jeff’s advice, and just spread the damn primer to “see what I’ve got.” It was the advice I needed to quit chasing little divots and such. I rolled a heavy coat of Inter Protect over surface sanded with only 60 grit, and sanded with 120 once dry. All feels smooth and any low spots I had mi...

Re: Thru hull transducer in C17.

Why don’t you cut an oversized hole through the plywood in your hull bottom. A square one with an oscillating saw would probably be easiest. Cut only through the plywood and be careful not to cut all the way through. Use a chisel to carefully peel up the layers of ply as you go. You want to leave th...

Re: C19 Stretch and re-build - Launched!!

I’ve built my cooler seat from polyurethane foam sheets glued to plywood. I used a denser foam (100kg per cubic metre or 6lb per cubic foot). Since it’s a heavy foam I just glassed the inside with double bias and faired. Taped the inside corners with woven. It seems stronger than commercial coolers...

Nice half a morning outing to fill up the freezer whilst the mahimahi are around. Good sized cool box is probably the next project. Boat going well. Was happy with the fuel economy. 20lts in 3 hrs trolling at 1900 rpm wasn’t bad.

Re: Venting Fuel Locker

I would test one of those jugs and make sure they will hold gasoline for extended time. That includes the seal in the lid. Not all plastics hold up to gasoline and it may take a few hours, days or weeks to find out they do not. Even if the jug itself holds up, the seal in the lid may not and then t...

Re: Venting Fuel Locker

Let your nose decide. If fuel vapors sit low in the hull on a sunny day; I'd change it. Otherwise, carry on. I'll never forget lighting a match one windless night and fryin my eyebrows from 3 oz of gas I threw on the firepit. It is the vapors to look out for.. I will try to remember not to light a ...

Re: Venting Fuel Locker

Well - for better or worse this is the system I have gone with. Have added a bulkhead - isolates the fuel locker. Added some vents. Some ducting from the rear vents to the bottom of the locker. And a bilge blower to one side.. Fuel tanks are old Roundup containers c/o the agricultural sector. Locker...
