epoxy comparisons
First of all, I don't want to cause any trouble with the question, so if I'm out of bounds, don't post, just let me know. I'm trying to write a BOM with cost for my boat and right now I'm trying to decide on the brand of epoxy to use. I tried to do as much reading and searching as possible within a ...

Re: E-tec vs 4 stroke
I own a 2004 50hp Merc 4 stroke and it is a great motor so far.. I've only had electrical issues related to moisture as a problem, those problems were due to placement of the keyswitch in an area that is subject to rainfall and not the motor. I believe my cost was about 5000 in 2005 (bought late). T...

Re: LB26
Back to my discussion about putting battens on the molds.. I don't really see any explanation/direction about applying battens over the molds in the plans, nor did I see it in Tom O'Malley's (oshows) build pictures. Is this a requirement, or is this something that is preferred? If one decides to bui...

Re: LB26
I got my plans yesterday. I'm going to build my own molds. If I cut them out with a jigsaw will the eges be smooth enough?
What exactly and specifically is the lamination schedule? Is it on a fold out plan page? I didn't review all those yet.
Thanks.. Dan

Re: LB26
Chief Brody, I understand I can get scored foam. It was more of a technical question for the LB26 build. I read the foam sandwich tutorial and saw another method where battens were applied over the frame prior to the planking with the foam and just recalled some pictures of the LB26 being built wher...

Re: LB26
Hey Tom, http://forums.bateau2.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=13509&hilit=lb26+in+arizona&start=20 This is a link to a picture of o-shows build. If you look closely, you can see the foam is right on the forms, no battens. This was the heart of my question. When I built the canoe, I had to fair...

Re: LB26
Hey Tom, Thanks for the dialogue. The canoe I built had two layers of glass on the bottom. I wondered about building a small model of the LB26 for practice. It'd be cheap to do, but would I really gain much? I'd face obvious problems with a 1/16th scale. 1/2" thick foam become 1/32" thick ...

Re: LB26
I did some reading that suggests one can apply battens over the forms before planking Jacques. Here is the text for the link. http://www.bateau2.com/howto/foam1.php If you look, there are battens on the frames, and then the foam over the battens. Are the plans setup for this type of method? I'm just...

LB26
I just bought plans for the LB26. I'm a long way from building, but I have a few questions bugging me.. 1. Divinycell versus corecell. Pascoe touts corecell in one of his essays. I can't determine the differences, pros/cons, etc. Any advice would be appreciated. 2. Oshow had trouble fairing. Can the...

Re: Interior Colour for open boats
I'm far from an expert on boat interiors, but one poster mentioned polarized glasses. My uncle in Alaska(previously a fishing nut like me) has macular degeneration and is legally blind. While he has many of the risk factors for the disease (age, light skin, smoked, light eye color); he credits long hou...
