Re: Camp Trailer
My first camp trailer was made in the 50's and had a door on the lower half of the rear and the interior cabinets cut out so you could slide a small boat in to carry it. It looks like you could easily do that. Just a thought. Your rig sure beats a tent.

Re: XF20 query
Stopping in 3 inches of water probably wouldn't be too smart since my draft at rest is about 4 inches plus the strakes are about 1.5 inches. :help: In 6 inches of water I can adjust the motor so that I can propel the boat but can't get enough speed to load the tunnel. When you consider the motor bein...

Re: XF20 query
I'm glad that you enjoyed the videos. We can thank my son Brian for shooting them. I don't know the exact running depth but I have run in water 3 to 6 inches and didn't hit anything. With my current setup,15 to 18 mph is where everything seems to be happy and I am going fast enough to have sha...

Re: XF20 query
I chose the foreword steering position on the boat you're referring to because I wanted to see the stump in the river before I hit it and not after. 8O The view is great from up there but if there were some chop the ride wouldn't be so great. If you want to be seated in choppy water, I would choose ...

Re: varnish/paint border
You will probably get away with that small overlap but you should remember that single component (and two component to some degree) paint cures by evaporating the solvent . When you cover it with a material like epoxy that cures by the chemical reaction between the two components ,the evaporation pr...

Re: varnish/paint border
Unfortunately time is not your friend . You should really varnish first, then tape off for the paint. The cured varnish at the overlap would be scuffed to provide the necessary tooth. If you were to mask the bright for paint, unmask, then re-mask for varnish, the paint would still have to be cured s...

Re: varnish/paint border
I would varnish first and then apply the paint after the varnish was cured and sanded at the transition point. Do yourself a favor and make a test panel to see if the paint will wrinkle the varnish. I am assuming that both products are one part finishes and, as such, they have a critical period wher...

Re: Using auto body shop guys to finish boat?
Good auto collision repair techs. have the skills and the tools to glass and fair a boat and there are a lot of them looking for a few extra bucks. I still worked as a repair tech when I built my XF20 so I got a couple of guys from the body shop to help me lay the glass when it was time. We finished...
