Re: ST21 "SKINNYDIP" Noosa Australia

Lee, thanks for the update on the BIG BARRA BOAT. I'm sure you get more real building work done each day, because at the moment I'm spending a lot of time trying to figure out how things can be put together. Just when I think I've got something nailed, the part turns up, and I find I have to rethink...

Re: ST21 "SKINNYDIP" Noosa Australia

I plan to install the same vents on the side of my boat .....with the pipe aimed up about 45 degrees towards the front of the boat leading into a 360 degree loop in the breather tube to make life hard for water to get in. Lee Lee, Do you mean 180 degrees? Fuel could sit in the bottom of a 360 degre...

Re: ST21 "SKINNYDIP" Noosa Australia

Fingers crossed Cape Man. :D Ideally, for aesthetic reasons, I'd like to vent the diesel fuel tank by running the vent line from the tank vertically up and through the crown of the deck. But I can't find a suitable deck mounted vent that stands half a chance of not allowing water back into the tank....

Re: ST21 "SKINNYDIP" Noosa Australia

Yes Fuzz, inboard diesel engine noise can be a pita. So a somewhat experimental approach to noise reduction is being taken in this build. This boat is going to be used mostly as a work boat for oyster reef restoration. Part of that will involve taking scientists, journalists, politicians, and commun...

Re: ST21 "SKINNYDIP" Noosa Australia

Occasionally the build path ahead feels daunting. So thanks for the encouragement Cape Man, Cacker Larry and Fuzz. Much appreciated. Have dry fitted an extractor fan and duct that runs from the top rear of the engine box down into the box keel and through acoustic baffles before exiting aft. I'm exp...

Re: Jaysen's V12 -- 'Lil Bit' of everything fun

The boss has ordered me to start building 'Lil Bit'. Her official decree was "You shall take me to the sand bars, both the ocean side and the one up town. You shall catch me fish and crabs and then you shall prepare them for my enjoyment. You shall buy the CNC kit to reduce swearing, blood let...

Re: ST21 "SKINNYDIP" Noosa Australia

Back to one of my least favourite jobs - sole cleats. It must feel like a red letter day to get the sole glued down.

Re: ST21 "SKINNYDIP" Noosa Australia

Once the sole is epoxied in place, it will not be possible to access the heads of the bolts fixing in place the aluminium angle engine beds. They've been entombed in epoxy, so that when the fixing nuts are checked during routine maintenance, the heads can't rotate. http://gallery.bateau2.com/albums/...
