Re: Looking for the right boat
I would love to see what an OD18 would do on the Great Lakes in a typical chop. Would be a good testing ground for the design. I have been up and down the Atlantic coast, and in the gulf out of La., Texas, Miss. and Florida. Usually the coastal mid/south Atlantic doesn't get put into the most danger...

Re: Looking for the right boat
Never meant to imply the Great Lakes are worse than the Atlantic, only different conditions. I have been out on Erie while it was snowing, perch fishing, I would not do it in a boat that didn't give a dry ride. I also ran in the GOM for 3 years, back in the early 80's. A wet ride would have been a p...

Re: Looking for the right boat
A chop in a 50° lake is much different than a chop on the ocean in the Bahamas. A wet ride on Ontario would be most unpleasant. Look at all of the boat around you on the Great Lakes. Do you see flat bottom boats? There's a reason for that. Dry ride, less pounding, easier to cut through tall closely ...

Re: Looking for the right boat
I would stay away from a flat bottomed boat on the Great Lakes. They pound way too much in a chop which is the norm rather than the exception.

Re: Here is WHY you use good plywood!!!
I used BS1088 on my FL14 and it still checked. Ended up sanding down to the epoxy and covering the whole thing with 6 oz. glass. That fixed it for good.

Do you think it was an elected official that decided which engine to shoot? Probably some PhD government worker that never worked a day in his life.

Re: Plywood from Bateau
I live outside of Buffalo. I had a pallet of plywood shipped up her to my workplace around 5 years back. It came through beautifully. Good packaging and wrapping job. I would not worry about it. Rick

Re: which boat for 9.5 horse power outboard
Any would be a good choice for the Finger Lakes. Which lake(s)? There's quite a difference in depth and water temp between the lot. In general up here you see V bottomed boats on any lake, not sure if that's because of the lakes, or preference, or the want/need to go onto the great lakes once in a w...
