Re: P19 inside upper side panels glass
Unless you are trying for the heaviest P19 ever, skip the glass on the upper panels. I don't think the prints call for any on the panels, much less the frames. You don't need it. Just coat the wood with epoxy. My P19 has been pounding in the waves off the Maine coast for 9 summers and shows no struc...

Re: P19 build in Alberta
Nice to see another P19 coming together. I have not been keeping up the the forum lately so I had a lot of posts to catch up on. One I thing that should warn you about is the tendency of the P19 to weather-vane in any wind. All of the windage is at the front of the boat and the motor puts the equiva...

Re: P19 build in Alberta
With regard to the weight: I did not finish mine as completely as Joe H, but I did have a complete pilot house. I came in just under 2400 lbs with a 368 lb motor on the back and every thing dry. I measured 2950 on the scales when sitting on my aluminum trailer. Top speed the same. Staying under 3000...

Re: HMD19 Opening in Frame
Don't forget the roof. Once the roof is attached to frame D, perhaps with some glass on it, it greatly increases the strength of the horizontal section across the cabin. In other words, the size of the hole along the horizontal is much less critical than the one in the vertical section. After my boa...

Re: P19 engine bracket
That has to be pretty close TomW1. The CG of my P19 when it is ready to launch is right at the back edge of the pilot house, about 7' 3" from the stern. I use a 368lb E-tec. There is not much in the forward cabin except the house battery. However, the boat is light enough that where I put the g...

Re: HMD19 Back-up Power
I have a Torqeedo 1003 which I use on my 8' Walker Bay, a little fishing scow, and on my P19. It will almost plane the little boats, but only for perhaps 2 miles. At trolling speeds the range increases to 15-20 miles. They are so simple to run it has opened up dinghy driving to my wife and granddaug...

Re: Life of Sterling after opening can
Since it is going to be tough to get new product, you may, like me be stuck matching some finish with some old paint and catalyst. I have three cans of 2964 catalyst. One was unopened as of a couple days ago, one was left over from last year, and the other was left over from two years ago. All three...

Re: Motor Puzzler
The sad tale you are describing is not music to my ears. The idea of my E-tec just shutting down like that in the middle of Penobscot Bay is enough to give me nightmares. Ethanol is not great for an engine, but there is no way it should have ruined a motor that fast. I have put up my motor for 9 col...

Re: Motor Puzzler
Sorry to hear you are having problems with the E-tec. As was mentioned earlier, there are not many things that will shut you down cold without blinking some of the warning lights. The computer printout should do the trick, unless, it actually thinks you are shutting it down. Have you double checked ...

Re: P19 Performance
I think you may indeed improve the performance with a new prop. I run a 3 blade aluminum 13.5 x 15 on my 90 Hp E-TEC and top out at 35mph at 5500 rpms. If you are running a 17 pitch, the calculations indicate you are getting a 23% prop slip at WOT, which is high. With a 17 you should be closer to 40...
