Re: Jaysen's V12 -- 'Lil Bit' of everything fun

Agreed. Big wheel == better. Tha ones in my home made are 14x2" and when it's working role really well. They are too narrow for sand and mud though. The dynamic dolly wheels are 16x4 and 18.5x8.5 depending on which ones you buy. That width is the key for me. Tony, I like what you've got there. ...

Thanks for your encouraging words and ongoing interest cape man, pee wee, Tom, Justin, and Eric. :D What's left for the Emotor guy? Cabling it up? Cabling it up is the easy bit. The smart bit is him checking that the settings he's programmed into the e-motor controller are achieving the intended ou...

Re: GF14 glueing side panels to transom? Alignment?

I think there are two factors that change the 1/8" rule
1. This is not a longitudinal seam
2. This is a thermal joint not a midpoint in an arch

Think about it and the "hard spot" in the hull is needed on both accounts.

What area/water will you be in? Big difference between farm pond and Alaskan coast. How do you define "camping"? My wife says "motel 6 is camping". I'm happy with a sharp knife, solitude, a bottle of rum and a change of shorts if more than a couple days. I'm partial to the V12 bu...

Re: D5 build/new member intro

What are you using for a mast? I just looked and the alum on optimist seem to be in the 1.8" od range. I think it IS right for an aluminum optimist rig but I think JM uses a standard 2" OD mast in his designs. If you don't want to use a alum mast (I was looking at dwyer) what about turning...

Re: GF14 glueing side panels to transom? Alignment?

Remember that the joint strength is more from fiberglass and epoxy than the wood. You can easily span a gap with thickened epoxy. Don't get too hung up on the exact placement and focus more on equal diagonals and good glass/epoxy ratios. Hope that made sense. I probably need more (or is it less) cof...
