Re: Question for Jacques (plywood composite strength)

Thanks Jacques for sharing some very useful information. Those references will be a great help as my Pelicano 23 project continues. Having built 3 of your designs I've become very comfortable and confident with the strength and longevity of your true composite designs. It was a great surprise to see...

Re: AR15 Denver

Great looking build. Nice to see a sailboat as others have said. Not sure whether you have sourced your spars yet but keep your eyes open for suitable donors at all times. I'm guessing that rigs from Vanguard 15 , JY15 or others would be a decent fit. Cost of a full NEW rig will give you chills! Pos...

Re: FS17 Pre Build Questions and Ideas

Maybe I should just eliminate a front casting deck. Use a console with a passenger seat on front. Fuel tank under the console, batteries under the passenger seat. Do you think this weight distribution would be pretty good with the 25 4-stroke. I believe it weighs 156 lbs. That would put the fuel an...

Re: FS17, FS14, OB15 Questions ????

Please continue to give your opinions and ideas. Looking at your FS17, I'm quite sure you know more and are a better builder than I am. Thanks, but that may or may not be true :) My building is good generally but I admit to getting hasty at finish time. Eight years with a banged together console is...

Re: FS17, FS14, OB15 Questions ????

Right now I'm thinking about ordering the FS17 plans in metric and scaling the boat down 5%. That would give me a length of just over 16' and a beam of almost 80". I think that is a size that would fit my needs really well and should perform better with my 25hp motor. I would think twice about...

Re: FS17, FS14, OB15 Questions ????

I've followed most of the FS17 postings over the last 10 years. I'm pretty sure that I'm the only builder who has tried several different engines on the boat. Since I was interested in sharing, and building on a broader database I started the thread... https://forums.bateau2.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&am...

Re: Build methods

For me the support from here is the biggest factor in choosing what boat to build. This is even more important if you have not built other boats before. I have not found any other place where you can ask the designer questions as easy as you can here. But in the end you need to pick the boat that f...

Re: Build methods

Interesting thread. Ive got a few thoughts after owning an FS17 for 8 seasons and now working on a larger boat from a Sam Devlin plan. First regarding longevity of S&G built boats I'd make sure every surface in and out is coated with epoxy resin. For areas not exposed to the sun I see glass as o...

Re: FS14 I feed it too much epoxy and sole...

I'd say not yet. My 900# (all up, boat engine battery but no people) FS17 was able to make 25mph with 3 aboard on a pretty tired Yamaha 25 2 stroke. I'd give that boat a try first. My bet us that she'll exceed 20 mph if propped right.

Re: fs17 materials

My 2010 FS17 is a Meranti build. I've also built boat related items from fir marine plywood. Currently I'm building a 23ft. S&G design from a West Coast designer from Okume. The more you use these materials the better you get to know them. My first choice would surely be Okume by far. It's light...
