I'm building the C17 for similar reasons - salmon fishing. Most of my fishing is in Puget Sound, but want to be able to fish off the coast and around Vancouver Is. on occasion. I like the hull style of Jacques classic boats (C17, C19, & C21) because their V-hull, beamy, and good freeboard. I cho...

Re: GF18

Thanks for the suggestion. The GV15 is a nice boat, but the low freeboard of a bassboat syle knocks her out of the running. I believe the GV15 has more freeboard than the GF18, about 24" vs 21". And there's about 60" of floor width. Edited - That's not right. I measured the freeboard...

Kemper...,

Have you looked at the Garvey 15 (GV15)? From the study plans, it seems to fit what you are valuing most: engine size, beam, length. The only thing is that it's not a flat bottom, but a very shallow Vee.

Length 15'-6"
Beam 7'
Draft 5"
Recommended motor 25HP
Self-bailing

Yeah, I know what you mean. Local shops charge much more than internet. But I was hoping you found a warehouse full of outboards in Idaho... It was a nice dream while it lasted.

$53 per HP. Wow, that is a good price. Where did you go through; a local shop?

Started fairing the bottom of hull this weekend, but didn't get much done. I can see this will take some time, so there'll be a bit of a dry spell for photos.

Wobbly,

It's a real shame you have to stop building for the winter. I've enjoyed following this thread and appreciate your help/advance while building my C17.

Your hull is a beauty!

Jacques, Jim,

Thanks for answering my question. I have no problem laminating after installing the panel. Though it might be easier to laminate first, if the panel could still bend to form the bow. Don't have enough experience to determine on my own.

Lamination question?

I'm building a C17. On this design, the sides of the hull are made of 2 panels; an upper and lower panel that overlap. Right now I have the hull bottom and lower side panels built and fiberglassed with 12oz biaxial fabric. That's all the lamination schedule calls for on the outside of the hull (it's...
