Re: Eric's C21

Keep a mix of Dawn dish soap and water in a spray bottle in the boat to break down the oil and fuel. The oil, fuel and water mix will turn to sticky gunk and stick to everything it touches leaving a greasy mess. It will then dry turning to more like putty making it harder to get off everything it h...

Re: Eric's C21

If you have a fuel spill it shouldn't be an everyday issue; and if it does occur you don't really want that mixing with water in your bilge - or bilge water mixing with your fuel tank! Okay, now I'm concerned. In my boat, I have all sorts of crap floating around in the bilge, including fuel (petrol...

Re: Eric's C21

Aren't the stringers and frames all filleted in? Wouldn't they be strong enough to lay a ply sheet over to sit on while working on the exposed ones, then shift the ply sheet to the finished section and then do the rest after?

Plywood brands

Hi, I can't lay to rest planning my planning to build a boat, so I've looked up what seems to be the sole provider of Okume plywood in Norway. They offer BS1088 Robbins Elite marine ply in 4, 6, 9 and 12mm thickness, with 3, 5, 5 and 7 plies, respectively. I can't find pricing for 18mm ply, but lami...

Lee, I've read through everything I could find about this build with regards to the scaling, but can't find any mention of how much extra material you needed compared to the standard BOM. Do you have a rough estimate? I'm guessing it was more than 10%... Christer, increasing the dimensions by 10% w...

Re: Christer's planning-to-build-a boat-at-some-point thread

That program brings us back to a DE23 or a P21. I have made that crossing many years ago and it can get real though with the currents. I agree that you need more than an open boat unless you stick to good summer days. Yes, it does indeed. I also noticed the OP21 as a possible candidate. It leaves a...

Re: Christer's planning-to-build-a boat-at-some-point thread

Yay! Big change of .. everything. The dragon just landed a job in Oslo, which is on the other side of the country from where we live now. She starts the second week of January, so we'll be moving some time come spring, I guess. I need to find a job over there as well. So there will likely be no buil...

For someone who has been with boats their whole life I am surprised you dont have a more realistic view of what you want in a boat.
I've only ever had small boats...

Re: Christer's planning-to-build-a boat-at-some-point thread

Even after bothering so many people, it seems likely that I'll never get to build anything. Well, why not start with that boat for your daughter, and scratch the itch without having to make all these decisions? I had planned a large build myself, but then the company I do most of my work for change...
