Re: 1988 Shoalwater 176 Rebuild

The only way to cut that is to do major reconstruction; so leave it.

But it is a design flaw in the hull.

If you ever experience prop blowout at top speed or inability to get to wot; you'll know the reason..

Re: Foam sandwich plans

The plans were never done in foam. They would require a n/a and composites engineer to draw.

Re: Titebond 3 under epoxy

It is done all the time.

A few places you would not...

Butt bonds or edge bonds of core in a foam sandwich process.

One you will..

Edge and end gluing of wood strip planks before applying an epoxy glass skin in canoe and kayak building.

All his work is improving the boat. Keeping a clean flow into the tunnel is a sure improvement. Removing it needs careful thought. I thought you added the thing, See if you can tell if the skegs are separate from tbe hull skin or integrated before you do more. Let us know. Jaysen and Tom are both co...

Just grind off 18-36" of the one that runs into the box. We've seen issues with them before where the guy can't even open the engine up.

Re: 1988 Shoalwater 176 Rebuild

It is looking good except for one thing. You have run the skeg all the way back to the tunnel. This is an absolute design fault. You need to cut the skeg off 18" in front of the tunnel, this will prevent the skeg from introducing disturbed water into the tunnel. Tom I agree with the main point...

Re: GT23

Another way to deal with bubbles caused by outgassing is to warm the resins over a water bath. This does reduce the cure time, but makes the epoxy thinner and less capable to hold air. The air bubbles may be air entrained from the graphite being less than fully mixed or some chemistry fun. I had one...

Re: GT23

Could be two possible reasons for your troubles. Obviously too damn much graphite. But, if you continue to neatcoat; it is the best build coat bang for the buck. You do it in layup window. So, like 3-4 layers without sanding. Then let it cure and touch it off with 80 grit ros. Or, if the epoxy itsel...

Re: Looking for boat plans for my next build

Windage is a definite downside with the c series.

Capeman has the OB unless I'm mistaken.
