Re: Narfi's FS17 - Build Thread
Is there an obvious solution I'm not seeing? Simple answer-----yes. The "mating" edge of that from panel is at 90 degrees to the reference line from which all offsets are taken. So using a framing square or similar, create that reference line as a "phantom" extending onto anothe...

Re: Narfi's FS17 - Build Thread
Those 2 sheets shown on the left are actually 4 mirrored sheets. The two on the right are not. So it looks like 4 sheets but is 6. The bottom is made up of 4 panels and each side is made of 3, so a total of 10 peices shown in that nesting diagram. Right! On my older printed plans the actual "p...

Re: Repton's FS 17 scaled at 90%
Looking great. Sure is a familiar picture, even at 90%! I think I used about 1-1.5 gals of total mud mix on my FS17; 2/3 of that was mixed using a blended red filler. Agree with glossie that the first pass or two are fine with a epoxy/blended filler mud mix. Do the final pass and touch ups with QF. ...

Re: Repton's FS 17 scaled at 90%
I would be delighted to cruise along at 20 mph at 4500 rpm even it meant slightly over propping than to cruise at the same speed with the "correct" prop at 5500 rpm. Thoughts? My full sized FS17 CC had no problem doing this when powered with my sort of "tired" Yamaha 25 2-stroke...

Re: FS17 or OB17?
Freeboard of the FS17 from console to transom was a bit skimpy for my taste so I added the bulwark to raise the sheerline. I rocked the panels so that the side was extended about 2-1/2" at the transom and 5" near the bow. This has worked well for me over the past 7 years or so. This pictur...

Re: So Flo FS17
Thanks, I was trying to mimic some of the New England designs like the Eastern 18 when I built the boat. Simplified transom is not an "approved" option for the build. I doubled up the lower part of the transom and added more glass to the area where the side compartments intersect the trans...

Re: So Flo FS17
Been over 7 years since I did this build so I'm a little fuzzy on the work progression. My gallery shows most of the assembly but not in perfect order. I cut the top gunwale pieces before putting in the supports, installed the vertical supports, made sure I was happy with the flow of the line and bo...

Re: FS 19 build
Maybe it's just the picture but the BL side (facing down right now) of the stringer should be perpendicular (@90deg) to the molds and does not seem to be. I realize that the stringer angle to frame F is set by the motor well sides. With the stringers angling down (as they seem to) running toward the...

Re: Why Build when you can Buy?
Thank you for all the great responses! I think for me the power requirements makes alot of sense. I anticipate only needing a 25hp or 30hp tiller outboard. I would think the FS17_LS has enough room for 2 to 3 people to fish, go for a ride and stop at a beach or if possible tow a tube for my teenage...

Re: Why Build when you can Buy?
I'd have to add that virtually all of JM's designs under 25' can be powered successfully with roughly half what would be required on a comparably sized production boat. For example: my 40 hp FS17 weighs about 850# before adding passengers and with 3 aboard tops out at about 30 mph. Similar sized pro...
