Good to hear you're out there that much, Hunch! :P I'm amazed you take it out in seas like that. I went out w/a friends 16' Cape Horn the other day with 2-4' seas..and it was my first time out in that kind of weather...not wild, just rough. And my thought was ...um, if I were out on my OD16 by mysel...

The problem with B&D is that all the internal parts are made out of plastic and they wear out relatively quick when used 'industrially' - I had a palm sander and it died after the first two weeks of sanding...when I took it apart the internal mechanism that makes it vibrate had worn out...it was...

I have a Garmin Gecko - that is about the smallest and cheapest one Garmin puts out. Works great for what I need it for. As to the radio 1/5 Watt is not really enough power for my comfort zone. I used to be a Ham radio operator..and with that little wattage on that frequency range, you are pretty mu...

I built mine (OD16) in a car port. Just make sure the rain doesn't get at it. As to debris: The only 'problem' I had were love bugs getting stuck in the epoxy..ah well. A tent would probably do nicely. Now, down here in Florida I really don't have to worry about the cold much, though. As to tools, i...

As to the paint trays - Here's what I do: I line the paint tray first with newspaper (this to get rid of the ridges...often left in the roller to be transfered to the painted edge!) and then I cover that with aluminum foil (from the kitchen). That way you can easily re-use the paint tray every time ...

I have the OD16 and I trailer it behind a 4cyl. Toyota Highlander without any problems. Just as a tip, if you have no real size considerations (i.e. length of your building space, etc.), I would suggest you go with the OD18. As to materials, you are really not looking at much more money, but you get...

Thanks for the tip, Hunch - I've thought of doing what you suggest. Going to head over to my woodworking buddy and see what wood scraps I can scrounge for the job!

Jacques..yes: Everyone - I 'designed' and built those gunwales..and at the time I wasn't too happy with them (although I'm not unhappy about anything on my boat, btw). What I built is is not something that Jacques designed..and I'm sure if I would've followed the guidelines..those cracks wouldn't ha...
