Re: Eric's C21
There comes a point when fairing that you need to stop and put some primer on. I agree with fuzz that you seem to be at that point. When you get down to small spot filling you can end up chasing round the boat again and again trying to fill low spots that may only be there as a result of the last ro...

Re: Sealing micro balloons
Most fairing compounds, although being epoxy, are slightly porous. If you painted (spray) straight over a patch of filler in a primered surface, you could get pin holes open up in the paint, or the filler could suck in a small amount of the paint leaving a visible low spot in the paint - even if bot...

Re: Eric's C21
I prefer the dry guide coat too. It's quick and easy to apply, gives a much fully even coat than a spray can and can be sanded straight away. Here's a link which discusses guide coats with some pick of me using graphite as a cheaper alternative - http://forums.bateau2.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=191...

Re: Custom Builder List
I would love to start building boats working for myself, but i am in Portugal so not sure there will be much demand for me on here. Although small boats can be shipped anywhere on a trailer for a fee. If there is though, i have built 4 small boats (kayaks, canoe and a mini speedboat), but also have ...

Re: Awlgrip and Interlux Premium Paint Solutions
Awlcraft 2000 is spray only right? Compared to the awlgrip topside where you can apply it either way. The Awlcraft uses the same spray catalyst and selection of reducers as the Awlgrip, so I can't see why the Awlgrip brush catalyst and reducer wouldn't work with the Awlcraft. The Awlcraft is better...

Re: Landon's 1/10th Scale FS19 Model
So for fillers/glue there are, Wood flour - cheap easy to use but hard to sand? Glass Balloons - light weight and easy to sand but brittle (round structure of the balloons provides nothing to grip?) Colodial silica - light and doesnt sag...... (is it like glass balloons but more jagged so it grips ...

Stitch and glue Riva?
Bit of a long shot, but does anyone know if there's any plans available anywhere of something along the lines of a Riva Aquarama in stitch and glue style? We have a potential customer that has seen someone building a cold moulded Riva and has asked us if we could build 2 or 3. Due to the shape of th...

Re: gelcoat mystery
White gel coats normally fade with age so would be the other way round - get brighter with sanding. Not sure what it is. Only other thing i can think is they sprayed the gel in 2 coats and the second was just a different shade. Only options would be painting or maybe sand the whole lot back, see if ...

Re: gelcoat mystery
Is the brown colour the same through to the fiber?
Looking at the bottom left of that pic, it looks like there's a layer of paint on the surface as there's a sharper edge as though it's flaked off a bit.
