Re: Help making molds for hatches
The thickness I use is 3/8. That together with the gasket I use puts you flush with the gutter. Very light and very strong. This is a pic of the fishbox, large square and small rectangle. On the small the hatch is upside down that is why it looks odd. Big rectangle not shown. SG, on this I have a g...

Re: Help making molds for hatches
No need for the extra 4 layers. I was just telling you what I did for a beaching keel. The while boat will rest on it. Build it with a total if 4 layers of glass. After it cures a few days; not overnite; if you don’t like the stiffness; add a layer to the inside of the cover... You need edge thickn...

Fallguy1000, thanks. Sorry for confusing this. I would like to do all fiberglass But thought I might need plywood to add support Let’s separate the base with gutter and Hatch all fiberglass Hatch. 4 layers 18 oz FG. & add 4 layers 18 oz FG. That should be stiff enough for 14” x 60” hatch Hatch b...

Help making molds for hatches
Let’s plow this field again. I’m starting my mdf hatch mold plugs and Hatch plug too. 2 larger 14” x 60” for rod storage and 2 for battery boxes still working on size. The build up schedule of fiberglass for each Hatch base with gutter & Hatch braced with marine plywood is my question. Prep of p...

Re: Insight into First Build
Texasdrifter, You fish right now next to big Texas Sleds with jackplates and big outboards they are heavy, expensive and drink fuel. All the boats you are considering will be lighter weight, require smaller outboards and cheaper to operate. Build the largest boat you can build in your space. Work sm...

Re: Sea chest in XF20 ?
I don't think it will work on an XF20, or for that matter on any of Bateau's smaller boats. The basic concept of this system is the entire chest is below the waterline, which on the XF20 is just a few inches. Just use a pickup, going through a seacock, then a pump to your well. Sea Chests are for b...
