Re: Charlotte Harbor Orca 17
Had a good day on the yak today. We joined the deck panels on the table. We got the a little exited about doing the hull and hadn't glassed the deck together. It's done now. http://gallery.bateau2.com/albums/userpics/30868/normal_DSCN2115.JPG Then we put some boards on top of the weights and taped t...

Sanding outside hull seams
Getting ready to sand outside hull seams-building notes say barely rounded, but thought the roundness of the seams would add to the ability of an ocean kayak. Know they are not done like a power boat-but the plans aren't very clear  . Thanks and hope I don't get a paddle in the head for what W...

Re: Charlotte Harbor Orca 17
As we awaited the arrival of 'Hurricane Issac' we flipped her over and were both surprised at how sturdy she felt. We are using 4ml Occume plywood, which is a frickle less than 3/16 and yes, Larry worse than West Nile  Duck tapped outside to cover what gaps were left while we waited for ...

Charlotte Harbor Orca 17
Started our new project August 17-the garage looked just to empty (and clean!)-Willie just couldn't stand it  ! Decided to do a Kayak-hopefully it won't take up 2 years of weekends  Willies daughter-in-laws Dad is an serious Ocean Kayaker and the kids sometimes go with his club on major e...

Fs 17 First Build cradle needs a home!
Willie and I have splashed our FS17 and wondering if anyone is needing a cradle for your build. Built really well and the boat slide off right onto the trailer. Our next build will be a different boat, and Willie thinks trying to revise this cradle will be to much of a PIA-maybe not even doable-prob...

Re: FS14, July 2012 Tom in Steinhatchee
Hey Tom, Great looking boat! Looks like the same color as our-which we just splashed-then resplashed! We were wanting to use the same color inside as you did, but the color we got really looked yellow, so we went with Light grey and made it a bit lighter on the floor. I think the stripe would look g...

FS 17 Re-splash
Actually we splashed her a couple of weeks ago. That's why it's a re-splash. The first time out we had a problem with a floor seam popping up in the front of the boat. With help from the forum, we did a quick fix by drilling holes and injecting a good amount of glue and weighted it back down. Not re...

Re: Bending tape around corners
We had the same problem. You need to round the corner 1/2 inch or so and the tape will follow it. If the panels are glued and the ties out just sand the corner round. I used a RO sander and a 1/2 inch router bit to check it. Some guys use a sureform plane/rasp and have good results. Either one will ...

Re: FS 17 First build
Thanks for your Sunday advice and hope you get your rats taken care of! I respectfully dissagree with the idea of moisture. NOTHING from this build was ever outside-the only time she was rolled out was to flip her and rolled right back in. Drilled 5/16 in. holes (6 holes)- when we drilled the 1st ho...
