I thought Polyester was only for leisure suits.cgd7777777 wrote:WOW it cant be that complicated to add a couple feet!
That boat would be great at 20" with a Yamaha 150 four stroke
and save a lil money and use regular polyester resin

Tint
I have some tint that was designed to be used in wood finishes, could I use it to tint epoxy? If not, could I put epoxy over tinted polyurethane or something similar? I want to leave some wood 'bright' but thought tinting it would be nice. http://www.woodcraft.com/product/2005522/16591/mixol-tint-ma...

I look forward to seeing them, and I will post pictures of mine when finished, maybe 3 weeks.

Re: Plyak 12
Styrofoam is a brand name from Dow, and it is applied to a few products, like the blue insulation foam, or XPS (eXtruded PolyStyrene I think) The white bubbly stuff that your TV came packed in is NOT Styrofoam. We should try to not confuse the two. The pink stuff from Owens is the same material BTW....

Re: Free Canoe Plan
No I did not. I liked the boat, but I wanted something shorter, so I lost about 18" off the back, put a 'transom' on it so I could attach a trolling motor if I want to in the future. I modified the front a bit also. I know it will NOT go through the water as well as the original design, but now...

Re: Free Canoe Plan
I am currently building a shortened and modified version of the Cheap Canoe. Like you, I wanted something to fit my specific needs. But just understand that if you do, and it fails, you have no one to blame but you. I will give Jacques all the credit for whatever goes right in my boat, and I will ta...

Rub Rails
For the HM cheap canoe I am building, does anyone see a problem with using cedar for the rub rails and breast hooks? And if I leave them bright, will the epoxy be enough protection, or do I need to do something else. (think of it as my homage to the cedar strip canoes of days gone by) As a side note...

Re: Epoxy question
OK, it was strange, because I have had no problems before or since. Just that one pot.

Epoxy question
I am in process of building my highly modified cheap canoe, and ran in to one problem while taping the inside. I was mixing epoxy and filet and was going well, and then one batch of epoxy (I was mixing small batches at a time) solidified in the cup in about 2 - 3 minutes ( I am using slow hardener) ...
