Re: Best way to glass in I/O hole?
I read over that and was confused by the guidance given. Now that I read over it again, I think I see what was recommended. 1. Replace the core with a plug that matches the existing cutout. 2. Glass the inside and out side with at least 3 layers starting with 4" overlap and increasing each laye...

Best way to glass in I/O hole?
I was hoping you guys might be able to give me some guidance on how to properly close in this hole. I had previously bonded in two sheets of 3/4" ply and was going to glass over from the outside, but was unhappy with my results so I tore it all out and will be doing it again. I know some of the...

Re: 1986 Grady White 227 outboard conversion
Getting back to this project... Could someone give me some feedback on whether or not to pull out those short "stringers" I mentioned above? I forgot I had even asked that. Prior to the thread getting "sanitized" :) I had documented the progress made closing in the transom hole. ...

Re: Grady White Seafarer 228 - replacing a 6 ft stringer sec
As the "friend" mentioned above, allow me to clarify what my recommendation was. :D The picture seen above is of the glass on the outer side of the stringer that was removed. Behind that is foam...and lots of it. I am certainly not advocating removal of that outer layer of glass. KEEP THAT...

Re: Grady White Seafarer 228 - replacing a 6 ft stringer sec
A few suggestions: 1. Pull those sender wires and fuel line though the bulkhead and get them away from the heat lamps. 2. Grind down any cured epoxy around and over those blocks so you can be sure the next stuff you put down will bond properly. 3. Same thing with the areas at both ends and under the...

Re: Grady White Seafarer 228 - replacing a 6 ft stringer sec
Stringer cores are definitely 3/4" and from what I can tell on my '86. Layup over the stringers was a single layer of heavy cloth (18+ oz) over the entire thing, with I believe 2 layers of hull tabbing. The first reached about a 1/3 of the way up the stringer, the second about 2/3. You can sort...

Re: 16' Mitchell Deck and Stringer Replacement
Agreed. In looking at your last pic there appears to be a ridge (like what would be left when a stringer was removed) where scraps of old foam came to rest after you cleaned the crud out. My guess is someone hacked that boat up once before.Arawak wrote:Looks like you're missing one?

Re: 14' skiff transom core question
Got the transom core pieces glued up over the weekend. On Saturday I cut both pieces from a half sheet of 5/8" ply. The sheet wasn't quite wide enough to get the full width, so I had to take some of the scraps and add a small piece to one corner of each. You can see the seams in the pics below....

Re: 1986 Grady White 227 outboard conversion
Two questions... :D The stringer extension will be joined to the existing stringers via a half lap splice. They will then be tabbed to the transom and hull prior to being fully glassed. The start of my splices... https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7456/14106293386_90393eac19_z.jpg In the picture below y...
