I enjoy the cat fish thread as much as anyone but it should be in "anything else". When a user is searching of an answer to a tech. question about plywood all the extra off topic post don't help. I have done it myself. I am doing it now.

This thread needs to be changed to catfish.

I use LVL's. You can get them in any length and they will stay straight.

That will be fine.

You can re cut the miss cut out of your scrap and glue it to the panel. It will have tape on both sides when finished just like the butt joints.

I think this is what you are looking for.

If the Plan calls for it then the designer feels it is needed. It will add very little weight and protects the wood core much better than paint and epoxy alone.
