Re: TX18 Centre stringer fit and modification
Good afternoon Guys. I am just a layman, and appreciate all the comments and assistance. That being said I am trying to learn, and will be asking questions till I understand, so please be patient with me. When I wanted to scale the TX18 I posted in the core material thread and mentioned scaling up i...

Re: TX18 Centre stringer fit and modification
Another issue with scaling and this is just for you to think about while waiting for JM. Suppose the stringer is not a uniform height and this one is not. Part of the stringer is above dwl and part is below dwl. If the sole contacts the stringer, adding 10% to the entire stringer is a clerical erro...

Re: TX18 Centre stringer fit and modification
Point of clarity... The transom cannot grow by 10%, yes or no? A 21.5" transom cannot be built to 23.65" high. The waterline in a 10% bigger boat remains the same and the baseline at the transom remains the same, yes or no? If you make the boat bigger by 10%, then there needs to be some w...

TX18 Centre stringer fit and modification
Hi Guys, a little help please. Maybe I can't see the wood for the trees! Assembling my form for my TX18+10% build. All bulkheads side stingers and transom appear to align correctly. When it comes to the centre stringer it aligns at Bulkhead C then rises above D by 5mm and then above MW by 12mm, but ...

Re: Mycell 80 and Corelite 450 for TX18 build
There is a fallacy present in boat construction these days. And that is the wood stringers are bad. The reason for this fallacy or falsehood is for the following reasons: 1. Prior wood stringer boats were made with polyesters and not epoxies. 2. Wood stringers in boats where the stringers are holed...

Re: Mycell 80 and Corelite 450 for TX18 build
The only comment I will make is the Mycell 80 used as a stringer offers very little structurally. It will really only be operating as a former for a solid glass stringer. For this reason, the only tangible benefit is that it won't rot. But it doesn't do much structurally. I would prefer to see the ...

Re: Mycell 80 and Corelite 450 for TX18 build
Thanks for starting this new thread. About materials substitutions, I can not do much until early November. I never heard of those core materials. Your suppliers should be able to give you specs. It's impossible to guess shear strength from those specs, I will have to search for boat builders opini...

Mycell 80 and Corelite 450 for TX18 build
I have started a new thread with more technical info as advised by Jaques. Thanks very much for the advice in the last thread, I really do appreciate it. Brief history; I'm building my second TX18, but increasing the dimensions by 10% all round. Also lifting the gunnels by 10cm. I will not be increa...

Re: TX18 Foam core stringers, ribs and sole. Strakes.
Yes, we started that discussion in another thread but I don't know the products you mention. Can you give me link to the specs or ask your vendor to supply those specs or better, have him compare them to Corecell 500A? Hi Jaques. Thanks for getting back to me. I'll start a new thread in the same fo...

Re: TX18 Foam core stringers, ribs and sole. Strakes.
Hi Jaques, Please can I take you up on the offer to help me with the foam core choices and glass schedule for my build (TX18+10%). I would like to build the stringers, ribs, sole and transom out of foam core. The hull from BS1088 ply. I have access to: Mycell 80 in 10, 15 and 20mm. Corelite 450 in 1...
