Re: Old outboard (15hp Johnson) rehab

Somebody just shoot me... Got the impeller kit, got the manual, trying to follow it. This manual is horrible. As an A&P mechanic, I spend a large portion of my workday following manuals, but this one is just bad... Jumps around between every motor they made over a 26 year period. Anyway, I read ...

Security certificate

Today I got an error that there was something wrong with the site's security certificate. I had to set an exception in my browser in order to log in.

Re: Old outboard (15hp Johnson) rehab

Thanks for the tips. I found a boat to use with it... Yesterday I went into Dewey's Cook Inlet, which I had driven by a bunch of times but never gone in, expecting it to be a waste of time. I ended up leaving with a deposit on a 14' Marlon jon boat, which I will hopefully pick up next week. It shoul...

Old outboard (15hp Johnson) rehab

Here is the unit in question: http://rawlinsbrothers.org/lake/johnson1.jpg http://rawlinsbrothers.org/lake/johnson2.jpg Data plate says it is a 1983 model, which is consistent with my memory of when my dad originally bought it. We ran this on a 12' Achilles inflatable that we used as a river skiff a...

Re: Landing craft, quad sized.

Our lake cabin has a floating dock, about 15' x 8', tied to shore and accessed via a simple plank. The dock is foam blocks encased in a wood frame and planked on both sides. There are runners on the bottom side so it can be hauled up on the beach. Wood is white cedar, fasteners are stainless. When ...

Re: Landing craft, quad sized.

So, for shits and grins, I paid Devlin the $2 he charges for study plans (I mean really, why even bother charging for two single page pdf's and a bitmap image?) for the Mud Dauber 23 landing craft. It still looks like much more boat than I would need even if doing all my own hauling, the draft of 1'...

Re: Landing craft, quad sized.

Yeah I have seen some of the Bayliner type stuff on there and given that some thought too. One of the constraints I will be working with, is the property isn't actually on the same lake as the boat launch that the road goes to. It's on a second lake, with a relatively narrow and shallow channel betw...

Re: Landing craft, quad sized.

Thanks. Lots to think about. I have to get on an airplane to Hawaii tomorrow afternoon (being dragged by the wife and kids, not really looking forward to it but at least now I have something to be excited about even if it isn't the trip), will hopefully close soon after we get back. After that the f...
