Re: An All-Season Trailerable Sailboat
Not trailerable. But still a cool boat. Getting my entire wish list in one boat may indeed prove to not be possible or practical, but unfortunately I live too far from any usable water to buy or build a non trailerable boat. If it comes down to that, I will have to compromise somewhere else.

Re: Does this look right??? Fs14ls
He's like that. 20+ years ago I was trying to finish a boat, not even one of his designs (some awful Stevenson Projects thing), and he patiently and thoroughly responded to my questions posted on the Usenet group rec.boats.building (if anybody else remembers that). He helped me a lot and told me pre...

Re: AD16 Myrtle Beach
And nearly every sailboat is also a power boat.
That Freedom cat ketch reminded me of another trailerable design that I like; I posted a link in the All Season Trailerable thread I started. Not a Bateau design but still a neat looking boat.

Re: An All-Season Trailerable Sailboat
The Freedom cat ketch posted in Bogie's build thread reminded me of this boat that I liked: https://bandbyachtdesigns.com/princess26/ Not a Bateau design and a bit too long for my current building space, but it looks like a neat boat. A year ago back east there was one built in foam sandwich for sal...

Re: AD16 Myrtle Beach
I have looked at a lot of different sailboat designs in my quest for the perfect trailerable, and that nose shape seems to be pretty common. You will be rounding it when fairing it. Thinking of all the daysailers I owned and some had a very broad bow too, not flat. Nice flat place to add a figurehe...

Re: Threaded Insert rivets
Possible stupid question.... I saw in your build thread where you have already made your other parts to match the contour of the mast section, so that is what you've got to use, but is there some reason why a normal piece of rectangular aluminum tubing would not have worked in this application? They...

Re: Threaded Insert rivets
I am sure they make SS rivnuts, but I don't think I have ever seen one. An aluminum rivnut would seem to be perfect for your application, you just need to select one with the right grip length. Even if you use an SS fastener and it causes the aluminum rivnut to corrode, you can always drill them off...

Re: D5 Sprit Mast, Mast Step, and Mast Partner questions
I cut mine after the bulkhead was installed and glassed in. What type of circle cutter did you use? Normally I use a circle cutter jig for my router, but that isn't going to work here. I could just 'free hand' it with a jigsaw, but it would be nice to have something a bit more precise. I used one o...

Re: Threaded Insert rivets
I have used rivnuts quite a bit, what do you need to know about them? Only issue I can think of is the ones I have used tend to be designed for thinner material than you are talking, so they may not upset properly. You will need to be sure what you have is intended for your material thickness.
