Re: GT27 Sea Keeping ability

To expect that a small boat like this would have an operating envelope any more detailed than the description is just not accurate. Maybe you could point me to boat plans for amateurs that have such a design envelope stated. Not sure why you're comparing it to a class operating envelope that is used...

Re: What's Specifically in the Design Package?

1) The study plans state "no lofting" and "all dimensions required" but given that lofting is "a drafting technique to generate curved lines" (wiki), I don't see how there's no lofting unless either 1) there's no curved lines or 2) the plans provide full scale templates...

Re: GT27 Sea Keeping ability

"I would take her across the Gulf Stream or across the British Channel in good weather . ." The good weather part is the essential bit to understand. The English Channel or crossing to the Bahamas from Florida is about 40-50 miles. On a good day no big deal. But in a blow, the GT27 shouldn...

Re: Conversion of plans from plywood to Honeycomb or foam

I like Dave Gerr but rule of thumb conversions are pretty inexact. I built the bridgedeckcabin of my 40' catamaran with a roof that had 666 gm/m2 stitched triaxial outside skin. That was <1mm thick. Not mat and roving but you're an idiot if you spend the money for foam core and use mat and roving on...

Re: stringer rules...how many and where???

It is more important to round over the top of the stringer for glass to cover them.

No need on the bottom.

Re: Anyone have any experience with electric engines (TW28)

1. Yes, experience in commercial workboats. Mostly hybrids (batteries for low load situations, diesel for high loads) 2. No. long range only if you fill the boat with batteries. Basically weight energy density of Li-ion is about 1/15 of diesel. What is reasonable/achievable is perhaps 30 or 40 miles...

Re: Centre of Lateral Resistance

I was a bit late to this (cruising the Canal de Midi) but also shifting your own weight forward/aft will change the CLR as well. So don't forget that while testing.
