Re: Build methods
There seems to be quite some reluctance to have anything to do with S&G because of the amount of work involved with the epoxy and glassing inside and out. I skimmed the other thread of your yin-yang pair. I think this reluctance is based on the unknown (or perhaps repeated miss-information) rat...

Re: Build methods
Why not get the free plans from each build method, break each of them down into 1/10th scale and then get the wood to build a model of each. Hobby stores sell dimensional lumber in very small sizes and you can cut them with a razor knife and/or razor saw. You can also get very thin sheets of plywoo...

Re: Build methods
My 10 cents worth! I have never built a boat before and therefore have never built a PoF boat! Although I have earned my living with my brain, I have always been reasonable handy so I was not daunted by the idea of building my own boat. I have mostly found Glen-L designs to be "dated", bu...

Re: Build methods
The written word can be toneless. Not the least offended. Phew, good. :) Have you ever used or do you own a table saw? Chop saw? I have used table saws on numerous occasions and know how they work. I don't trust them nor feel safe around them, but I respect them and know to keep my hands away from ...

Re: Build methods
I would say you need to pick a design and building method you like and build a boat. There is no perfect building method or material. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. After building your boat you will know much more about what you like and what you do not. After having the boat for a n...

Re: Build methods
My boat is not a combination of PoF and S&G. It is a female jig sandwich foam job and much more like S&G. The only difference is my panels were a wee bit tortured into shape with a jig so they mirror each other closely. Otherwise, my hulls are not monocoque either. Each panel is glassed and...

Re: Build methods
This is good stuff, gents! I'm by no means an expert but I have built a lot of different items out of wood. That being said, from what I'm experiencing the stitch and glue is much lighter than you'd get with plywood over traditional frames and just as strong. Lighter means using less HP to move the ...

Build methods
Hi y'all, I am sure this has been discussed in length before, but I am either useless at searching, or the topic has not been brought up in a separate thread. My money is on the former, but here goes anyway. It seems to me that for amateur builders, there are two (three) main build methods: stitch &...

Re: My daughter wants a boat.
Jacques, thanks for replying. I'm leaning towards the FS12 myself for a number of reasons - it's the right size, it's open, I can stuff a CC in there if need be, it's relatively light, it's cheap and fast to build so that my daughter won't lose interest in the build along the way. Hopefully. Will go...

Re: Eric's C21
So how do you use the hot glue? A drop here and a drop there just to keep the part in place, then peel off the glue when the epoxy is on? Or do you epoxy over the hot glue?
