Re: RB16 new build KY 1st timer

Hard to tell, but maybe just a tad more than needed. You don’t want to sand into the glass. Just reduce the cotton strands. I tend to take the approach that the cotton vanishes as I fair as much as it does before I fair so…

Re: RB16 new build KY 1st timer

In my experence, the white chunks should be silica. micro balloons are typically purple/red. The pink is pink because the siica "powder" mixes in with the balloons. yes, i used a scraper (bond type) to apply my hard mixture. You need eough of the balloons to keep it from being too brittle ...

Re: RB16 new build KY 1st timer

I’m assuming the you are past all laminations and are at the fairing stages. I would recommend a silica heavy fairing mix as it will cure harder than quickfair, premixed fairing mix (pink mix) or straight micro balloons. Harder does mean “not as fun to sand” but a cautious application followed by a ...

Re: Security certificate

Sorry guys! Should be fixed.

For the record I forgot to note the date of expiry when we switched hosts. Now that it is all “one space” we should be good until I forget next year.

I approved this so others can have a chance at fix thing. Attempt to reset your password when you can't log into your account. Sometimes the sytem locks acounts becuse someone is attempting to hack via password guessing. Happens. Sorry. Request "reverificaiton" of your account. This is whe...

Re: RB16 new build KY 1st timer

From Reid: I cannot get on the forum from my phone, so would you mind posting this for me? I prefer to work “green on wet”. Jacques and I would discuss this frequently. Once epoxy is applied, whether it be a clear lamination, fillet, or fiberglass lamination, you have a long window to reapply anothe...

Re: RB16 new build KY 1st timer

Lamiation roller, in my experinence, is best when you are "very wet on wet". Meaning laying 2+ layers at one go. they way I do this (and I stole this from watching fallguy1000 build a giant boat) is. 0. Use SLOW epoxy. 1. lay out layer one. mark its edges in black. secure it to hull with t...

Re: RB16 new build KY 1st timer

I'll hae to see if I can get Reid to comment, but at one time the statement was about "cure time at temp" not surface quality. "Wet", to a large degree" is to ensure chemical bond. That is more important than smashing the top layer into lower layers. That said, in an ideal w...

Jaysen, you said woodflour absorbs water. In glue, only the sanded surface would, much like closed cell foam, right? Correct. So if you use it for glue, sand, then glass, you’ve covered the exposed wood. You can reseal with thin neat coat (warm for easy flow). Let thing is if you sand wood flour im...
