Re: Little Hickman Sea Sled

That's pretty much the plan, but I need to figure out how to steer it from farther up front!

Re: Little Hickman Sea Sled

I've used it a bit over the last couple years. Moved to the lake last year, so now it's actually easier to just crank the big boat down on the lift than it is to launch the small one, so I've been lazy about getting it dialed in. We use it with a little electric motor. Still can't get the weight dis...

Re: Marine epoxy part A settle out

I get that all the time, my basement is pretty cold. A hot water bath works well, but my favorite is to set it a few inches above a 60-100w incandescent light bulb, put a box over the whole thing, and let it warm up for a few hours or overnight. don't get it too close to the bulb, don't want to melt...

Re: Best plywood from Lowe’s??

I've built several little boats, mostly on the cheap, so I can speak to this from experience. One I used 4mm Okume marine, one AC exterior, one Lauan/ mahogany/ meranti (not sure which they look close- not marine rated but passed a boil test), one BC exterior, and 3 cheap Canoes with 1/4" under...

Congratulations on starting a boat project. You'll find this forum to be super friendly and helpful. And Jacques designs some kick-ass boats - well thought out and with really nice detailed plans. Rather than all that protective gear for sanding the fiberglass, you may want to consider a HEPA dust e...

Re: My daughter wants a boat.

Do good marine ply if at all possible. It's stronger, you can sometimes get away with thinner. Takes WAY less epoxy and time to seal and sand and sand and sand and finish. And you'll get a way lighter boat. I built each of my kids a scaled down CC14, according to their size. My daughter's is about 8...

Sorry to hear that. I remember going through the same thing a few years back, and it sure wasn't easy. I'll be prayin' for your family.

Re: Favorite Boat Building Tools

Another vote for the Festools. I use an ETS150/5 sander with a CT series dust extractor vacuum. Freaking awesome. Low vibration, nice ergonomic grip, sandpaper lasts a long time with the dust extraction, and the dust extractor eliminates probably 95%+ of the floor and airborne dust from sanding. It ...
