That's neat, kinda like the old Starlite performance wise. Sounds similar to S&G but dang that kit is expensive.
If I ever build a plane it's going to be at least a 2 seater. I can't see doing that kind of build more than once.

Re: Avoid obstacles to progress
I've often thought that a stitch and glue plane might make a lot of sense. Or at least parts of it. Could be foam core, and the cloth wouldn't have to be as thick as a boat since it wouldn't need the impact and puncture resistance. Kind of a modern version of sawing out all the plywood ribs on a Vol...

Re: Avoid obstacles to progress
That minimax is a cute little thing. Wayne Ison, the designer, also drew up plans for a really cute little race boat that used 2 go kart engines. And tons of go kart racing stuff. Really clever guy. I'd totally dig building a HiMax, but can't see actually completing it before I'm too old to fly. Hav...

Re: 8' Cheap Canoe for Little Kids
Capt UB, now you've got me thinking about that sailing thing. I think I'll incorporate provisions to add a little sail rig into this. It probably won't take away anything from using it as a kayak, but gives added possibilities for later on. Xander sure likes learning new things, he graduated from sp...

Re: Cheap Canoe for Kids
I've got an old but very low hours RANS S4 tucked away awaiting some refurbishing.to be airworthy again. I'd love to build a plane but with how llong it takes me to build a little boat I can't see ever completing a plane from scratch.....

Re: Cheap Canoe for Kids
All black too hot, and I want it a bright color so I can see where he's at. But I agree that would look awesome. He will get a graphite bottom. Probably a bright finish interior, just to show off that it's a wood boat. And bright trim, it turned out really pretty. I've seen you over on the homebuilt...

Re: Cheap Canoe for Kids
Building note- no strongback. Keeping it real simple by using the table of my table saw as a flat surface, then spacing upward with a couple of 1x6 to keep the boat up a little higher where I could work on it. Hull turned out quite flat and fair, there was only about 1/16-1/8 of corner to corner roc...

Re: Cheap Canoe for Kids
I love this stage, where flat panels become an elegant curved 3d object. Zip tied, tabbed together with epoxy/woodflour, left it cure for a few days and then it looks like a boat. https://forums.bateau2.com/app.php/gallery/image/3155/medium https://forums.bateau2.com/app.php/gallery/image/3154/mediu...

8' Cheap Canoe for Little Kids
I've built or helped build about 4 of Jacques' Cheap Canoes over the years, and they are very competent, sturdy, and quick little boats. My son Xander is 5 now, we moved to the lake last fall, and he's absolutely itching for a boat of his own. He's a skinny little guy, only about 40 pounds (ain't go...

Hmmmmmm, wonder if that's just because this computer has the password for Photobucket stored? I'll move 'em over to the Bateau gallery at some point.
