Re: At last a build thread: CR16 skiff

Another great photo of the future boat builder!!! Jeff Yeah not sure how that virus is transmitted but for sure he has high levels of exposure. He points out every boat we go past, from canoes on roof racks in the neighbourhood to container ships floating in the harbour. If we walk up the back alle...

Re: At last a build thread: CR16 skiff

Also pictured in kitchen: emergency curtain because there was yet another heatwave and we don't usually have a curtain there but it was like a convection oven at the sink otherwise; general messiness because only one parent does a damn thing to keep the house organized while the other builds boats; ...

Re: At last a build thread: CR16 skiff

Progress is continuing at typical summer pace: lots of time off to go play at the beach etc. But I continue to chip away here and there. Here's the current state of things: Back when I cut the side panels, I also cut the outwales or rubrails or however you want to look at that, because of course I c...

Re: Quikfair Coverage

Definitely a huge variance depending on application. I'm just wrapping up a 17' boat...I have used about a cup. But I don't use it for much; just very thin final skims of stuff. If I had used it as my primary fairing medium...I'd guess half a gallon? So a huge difference there depending on what you'...

Re: At last a build thread: CR16 skiff

Funny, the bassist guy who dragged me into the last project just messaged me about how he was drunkenly writing lyrics and has finally admitted to himself that he can't write. So he's in a vulnerable state and I could definitely swoop in with something. Not too much danger of this thing getting over...

Re: Interesting boats

Well quite possibly not; that's just what the lines say to me. I'm hardly an expert on halibut schooners or anything, I've just seen a few and that's what it made me think of. Rear cabin, classic upswept sheer, couple of stubby masts...I don't know, that's just halibut schooner design cues for me. h...

Re: Interesting boats

To me that looks like an old halibut schooner. They were built mostly in the early 1900s up until around 1930, I think. They were used for longlining in the Bering Sea for the most part,as far as I know. They're motor boats, "schooner" is just a nickname. You see them as far south as Seatt...

Re: At last a build thread: CR16 skiff

Thanks Jeff - gotta put all that BBC epoxy to work somehow! Small update: Like an idiot I started fairing the interior. So that ate some time. It's not perfect and I'm not trying to make it perfect because it'll get beaten on loading stuff on and off the island all the time. But apparently I just ca...

Re: PG 25, July 2017, PangaRon

I've seen elephant trunk scuppers on zodiacs around here before. They're definitely planing boats. I'm not recommending them or anything because I've never used them. But they must work on planing boats. If I were to fit a pair, I'd put a rigid piece of plastic on the bottom with a cord run through ...

Awesome that you're getting to use her now - sure a great feeling to see them on the water at last eh?
