I finally did it!
I just completed the first step to building my own boat or the first step toward my impending doom... Only time will tell. I ordered my plans for the FS18.

Re: recessed/flush mount trim tabs?
Thanks George, that is pretty much what I had in mind for building them. Nice to see it can be done with this kind of construction. I need to run a couple tests to check weight. I am already adding a bunch of weight to a finicky boat so I don't want to over do it. I love the fs18 design and I don't ...

Yep! Those are the ones. A little simpler than the other picture...

Re: recessed/flush mount trim tabs?
Larry, see if you can locate a picture of one of the Ranger boat's set up. If I remember correctly it is a more simple design.

Re: recessed/flush mount trim tabs?
Yep, that is what I was referring to! They do look cool don't they. A freind of mine has recessed tabs on his Ranger Phantom, I like the way it looks. I am going to be putting trim tabs on the boat, I will play around with this and see what I come up with. I like a challenge!

recessed/flush mount trim tabs?
Has anyone here built these into your boats? I know a lot of production boats offer them, I am wondering how hard it would be to incorporate this into my FS18 build. Just one more thing to be thinking about. I think it would look Sharp and really clean at the stern. What do you guys think?

Re: 3/16" ply -vs- 1/4" ply
Thank you to Jacques and Cape Man and everyone else for your quick replies. Again, I am just asking questions before my build. What might seem like common sense to y'all seasoned builders is totally foreign to me. Thank you all for your help. I am really excited about this build! I haven't even orde...

Re: 3/16" ply -vs- 1/4" ply
Wow! Easy there guys. I was just asking a question, not trying to start a fight. There is obviously a weight savings, but is there a substantial lose of strength? Either way, the ply is covered with fiberglass. There is 7 lbs difference per sheet... Even I can do that math...

3/16" ply -vs- 1/4" ply
On the Fs 18, could 3/16 ply be used for the hull if both sides are glassed ? I was just thinking about the weight savings. Probably another stupid question... And I am sure it won't be the last stupid question from me..

Re: A Cracker built FS18
Looking good Larry! I will be following your build closely, I hope to have mine started before the holidays. That way I can have everyone buy boat building supplies for me for Christmas! Are you going with hard chines or round? Any other modifications to the plans? I will be asking lots of questions...
