Re: New boat from elsewhere

Honestly, it’s not a problem to name what you’re building and ask questions to get help for ANY designer’s plans. Just be aware that BBC doesn’t support them and the advice you get is that of “amateur boatbuilders” unless you get certification of their qualifications. And don’t try to push the other...

Re: BASIC electrical system info.

Not in my area of previous experience. Unlike my hobby of building various electronics projects, I’ve not bothered with underwater communications. That’s not completely true… at one point infrasonic sound waves were used as carriers for encrypted communication signals. But these were easily intercep...

Re: CR 13 build

Jacques should have designed a 1/8” lateral and 1/2” longitudinal clearance (1/4” and 1” respectively). He and anticipated some noise damping in the longitudinal. Just build to the plans and you will be fine. I appear to still be in my youthful stages (50) because I can seem to be under sail without...

Re: BASIC electrical system info.

I'm not sure how a DC 12v battery provides power to a 20v charging system, and this was why I recommended inverting. Maybe you can explain it to me. Most DC-DC systems use boost converters for upward conversion and buck converters for downward voltage change. Both are swapping voltage and amperage....

Re: CR 13 build

I may have looked at the wrong design. If the plans have the mast using stays then that design complication for moving to deck stepped is reduced. The f the mast is free standing moving to stays … lots of work. The temptation is to put a compression post under the deck, and attach a mounting bracket...

Re: CR 13 build

1. If built to spec, the dagger will attempt to pop up when grounded. Note “built to spec” and “attempt”. This means you have to make the dagger trunk with adequate clearance and use light wedge, shock or weight to keep the dagger down. I prefer wedge on my v12. 2. If you want a deck stepped mast yo...

Re: BASIC electrical system info.

OQ, it’s less the feed and more the water (irrigation and animal), pest control and monitoring. It’s almost to the point that I’m just going to drop a trailer on the lot and stay there a few nights a week. It’s only a mile up the road from the house but… that dang water pump is a real problem.

Re: BASIC electrical system info.

All power fluctuates between voltages. DC voltage is expressed in nominal meaning the “expected average” between upper and lower acceptable limits. For 12v DC that’s 14.1 - 10.1. For AC it’s the expected generator output voltage at the given frequency. For US systems it’s supposed 110v@60HZ/leg. The...

Re: BASIC electrical system info.

Fallguy, you are speaking out your posterior on that one. You can buy official power supplies for DC. You can regulate DC much easier than square wave or pwm AC. These things aren’t new tech. They just aren’t profitable so no one wants to sell them. And before you start trying to argue with me look ...

Re: BASIC electrical system info.

The Sailpro outboards would provide enough charging for us. Would require running a couple times a week for a couple hours when no wall power is handy. Honda's are almost inaudible at 50% throttle. The local nerd will know. For example, I know that my laptop power supply says it will supply 20a to m...
