Re: kevlar on LM18 bottom?

It's really more of a peace of mind sort of thing. But there's tons of log booms that go through the area by tug, so deadheads are a fairly common sight/concern boating. Nice to know there's a little more impact resistance.

Re: P19 Fuel system

Thanks for the reply Orangequest, I like the idea of the tanks being able to self-level. Going back to my knowledge of aviation, it's true that you have to set the fuel selector valve to a singular tank after shutdown to prevent crossfeeding, otherwise the tanks would transfer over to find level. I ...

Re: P19 Fuel system

Ah that would make sense, there isn't much centerline real estate now that the sole is on and the area under is all foamed up. The other possible solution would be to have two tanks with a selector valve joining the lines, more like a Piper style aircraft, and just switch between the tanks as needed...

P19 Fuel system

Hey all As we move into spring we're really pushing to finish our build this year. One of the big head-scratchers so far has been the fuel system. An aluminum tank seemed sort of questionable due to corrosion etc, and looked like potential headache. I was thinking about how Cessna's work with the tw...

Re: kevlar on LM18 bottom?

On our P19 we went quite overboard, on top of the standard biax cloth on the bottom there are two layers of carbon fiber tape and two layers of kevlar tape followed by another 3 layers of woven fiberglass tape over top to protect the kevlar from abrasion, graphite on top of that. There's tons of log...

Re: Harmony HMD19

At the boat shop I work at in the summer, we use steel tripod style stands that we can raise and lower just by turning a collar on the stand while it's loaded. See if you can get a hold of some medium stands and low stands. you could then jack the boat up off the cradle with the medium height stands...

P19 chase tubes.

Hey all, so we're now chugging along with our build, as we get close to foaming I've begun to try to figure out what the chase tubes are for. Are the under sole tubes for water removal, or are they more for fuel lines etc. Since our fuel lines will be above the sole, and we only have a small integra...

Biaxial or tape for frames.

Hello all, now that everything's warming up again and I've gotten all my planning done (windows etc), would it be acceptable to use 6oz woven tape in two layers to attach the inner hull frames/stations? The stringers are all biax, and it would be very nice to work with regular old tape again!

Re: Windows, build or buy?

Ok, I was just thinking to avoid drilling the acrylic/ water proofing, but I suppose being able to remove th windows is probably better.

Re: Windows, build or buy?

Ok, so reading up on some other forums, it seems that acrylic will get a good mechanical bond with epoxy, and so I'll get the acrylic cut to the exact same size as my window opening. Then I'll rough up the edge of the acrylic and glue it onto my exterior frame which will be 5/8" ply with a step...
