R13 Questions

Post by Jeff »

This question arrived via email overnight: "Greetings from Scotland. I’ve been looking at your R13 row boat. Some of the photos show a grey boat which evidently divides into two parts. It’s entitled R12 nester. It has a seat running down the middle of the boat rather than the usual transverse thwart. That looks to be the kind of boat I’m looking for. But I need to be sure I can carry individual sections of the boat on my own. It looks as if the stern section of this R12 may be too heavy. But would it be feasible to replicate the joining bulkheads at a second bulkhead further aft, say the central bulkhead or the one nearer the stern? I’m not concerned about whether the different sections can be nested. The important point is that I can carry each section on my own. Do you still sell the plans for this R12 nester and could I build it in three sections as I have suggested?" Jeff

That boat is a R13 modified by the builder. He scaled the boat down to 12' and devised his own attachment system.
There are no plans for the "take apart" system.
There are plans for a nesting dinghy here:
