Old fiberglass discolored on Hull

Post by backriverfish »

I have been noticing more and more areas where the pink fiberglass has turned either black or a cream color on the inside of the hull on my skiff. Each area feels fairly weak and one spot actually punctured in the foam removal process. This discoloration is only in between the stringers.

What is the best way about dealing with something like this? Photos below

That sounds to me like you are down to the very outside layers of the glass. How thick is the glass in the spots pictured?

Might be better if you keep all of your questions in the thread you already had going. Except sometimes questions like this need JM's help and in that case post them in the upper Power boat section.

Will do moving forward. I have barely grinded any glass off. The hulls on the maritimes are paper thin. I don't have an exact measurement but its thin.. To the point where I have to be careful walking around. If I had to guess it might be a 1/8th in thick?
