Looking good GK. I hope everything is okay on the health front. We don't want to have that boat kill you. LOL
Keep the updates coming.
BTW, what is the beam on that boat?
Take care,
Tim

Got the port spray rail glued on.
Siince this was the last long piece of cypress I needed to glue, I decided to stop being lazy and cut a real scarf for the glue joint. All of my previous splices were made with 45° cuts and they just didn't hold. The angle caused too much tension on the glue joint when bent around the hull. Changing to a 20° angle reduced tension on the joint and takes advantage of the greater shear strength of the glue joint.
This one WILL hold.

Rainy weather is slowing down the bottom fairing process, but I have been able to work on some small details.
I drilled the holes for my bow eye and added a small piece of glass to the area.
And I've drilled the big hole in the transom. I got a cool cutaway view of S&G construction.
I only wanted to drill that hole once since it ended up in the spot that I wanted it. I soaked the hole with resin to prime it and cut a piece of 9 oz tape long enough to line the hole with two layers of it. Then I wet the tape real good and rolled it up on a stick, put it in the hole and unwound the tape to make it expand to the sides of the hole. A balloon holds it all in place while it cured.
Pop the balloon and peel the rubber away and the hole is ready to finish.
A little Dremel tool work on the outside and it will be ready for the graphite coating. I'll finish the inside and stick a brass tube in it with 5200 later.

Thanks Joel. Reading that vacuum bagging tutorial got me to thinking about the same principle in reverse. I think it turned out better than the other idea with the delrin rod.
The process was messy, so I inflated the balloon with a can of dust off to keep from getting my mouth near the mess. Just slid the balloon on the dust off tube and pushed it in the hole and gave it a shot.

Spent the last few days fairing the bottom up to the spray rails.
Rolled on the first coat of graphite this morning.
Favorite tools of the week.
A strainer to sift the graphite powder and a cheap drywall knife for spreading quick fair.
