Re: Mind's Slow OD18 Build

I was more worried about the outboard, though... Oysters vs Outboard = $!
Not a problem. Yahama with a stainless prop chews up oysters like a stone crab :D Sometimes I have to get a running start to jump over some spots, and sometimes I shoot mud and oyster shells 50' in the air, and sometimes we have to get out and push, but a OD18 will get about anywhere a jonboat boat will. And it will also get you to the Bahamas if you have the desire :D

Yep, I've seen Larry's boat in both situations. Once in the middle of a 6" creek while we were trying for bait. The other time we were 25+ miles offshore in the Keys tearing up dauphin on a weed line. 8) It's got to be one of the most versatile boats out there.

Got the 'short' side bow stringer sections cut out. I'm going to make the 'long' side bow stringer sections next by re-drawing instead of tracing the existing bits. I want to see how accurate my reproduction is.

Once I get one of those cut out with the circular saw I may try to duplicate in a few passes with the router. I was fairly happy with circular saw duplication on nets of 3/4 of material but not with thicker pieces. I figure its a two pass operation.

Then its just a matter of putting all eight bits together with the overlap.

Any time you need duplicates, the most accurate way is to stack both blanks together and cut them out as one piece. I do this with stringers, side panels, bottom panels, transom panels....

How'd you end up doing that on the OD18 with the plywood layout as such, or did you skip the plan layout and 'go your own way'? Specifically i'm referring to the sole - which is still a head-scratcher for me on just how I'm going to cut that monster out. The side panels are worse - something like 5 edge-to-edge sheets?

It's only an 18' boat, not a 40 footer  That's only 2 full panels plus a small piece. I've got some pictures somewhere, I'll see if I can find them.

Bottom panel

Side panels, notice they are stacked 2 high so I can make both duplicate sides with just one cut.
