After staying put yesterday, this morning we departed Port Clinton hoping conditions would be ok for a 50 nautical mile NW passage to Middle Percy Island. If conditions were too uncomfortable, we'd duck for cover into Island Head Creek, some 10 nautical miles north of Clinton.

We're now anchored Island Head Creek (Lat 22.23.80 S, Lng 150.39.04 E), pic below. It's a snug all weather anchorage the equal to Clinton.

By tomorrow things should have calmed down sufficiently to passage to Middle Percy.

Glad you are tucked in and safe some of those big blows can take 2-3 days to settle down depending on current and tide factors. No use ruining your holiday fighting that. :D

Thanks Tom, the big blue settled down enough today to afford us a very pleasant 50 nautical mile beam-reach sail up to Middle Percy’ Island’s White’s Bay (Lat. 21.40.31S Lng 150.17.46S), pic below.

Edit: Pic now posted. Internet connection was so poor at White's Bay that I was unable to post it.

I’m certainly learning a lot about eastern australia geography watching this thread. 😀 the question I have is how much wine do you have to stock for a trip like this 🤣

Pretty sure the wine limit is it can not make Great Sandy draft more than another foot

Thanks for the laughs gents. :D We set sail with about 120 litres of wine on board. We enjoy inviting others for sundowners, and unlike our good selves, some have a ferocious thirst.

Yesterday we had a most pleasant 60 nautical mile sail and motor-sail from Middle Percy Island's White's Bay to Scawfell Island (Lat 20.51.71S, Lng 149.35.96 E).

Pics of Scawfell approach and anchorage below.

Many thanks Lee, images like these help greatly. Please keep posting them when you're so inclined. I've got no doubt other followers of this thread like Fuzz and jonnymac will be appreciative. :D

At last we're in Whitsunday cruising ground waters, where we'll rarely passage more than 20 nautical miles between anchorage, usually less. So lots more sailing and less motor sailing. :D

Today we had a leisurely sail from Scawfell Island to Goldsmith Island's Roylen Bay, the one with the sandy beach to the middling left in the pic below.
Lat 20.40.14 S, Lng 149.08.93.
