Not likely. Covid hit us hard but we were recovering from that. Our weather has been rainy more than normal and once that goes away government funded unemployment is hitting even harder, since free money is easier to come by than working for it.glossieblack wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 3:30 am Are you likely to get the chance to progress your interestingly bespoke FS14 in the coming months?

Sorry to hear that OQ.
Over the past week I've either refurbished or replaced all the components of Great Sandy's electrical anchor winch, with the exception of the motor's gearbox, which is yet to be repainted. Then re-assembly can take place.
Today I stripped down, de-greased, cleaned, re-greased, and re-assembled four of her eight sailing winches.
The first 2 pics show the end result of the stripping down, de-greasing and cleaning of a winch. The third pic shows the stage of reassembly when re-greasing takes place.
Careful examination of the third pic shows the 2x2 gears of the two speed winch on the lower two levels, and above the two roller bearings that lie between the winch's core and revolving drum.

I know that feeling. My first winch service, I dropped the retaining cap overboard. There were words inappropriate for children uttered at volume.

Half sheet baking pan works wonders for disassemble and reassemble of things that have parts that may try to wonder off.
Sorry to hear your parts taking a dip.

The problem with winches is that the “spriooong” parts are in the barrel that you have to lift off. The best solution I’ve heard of is a beer case with a hole. Put it over the top and disassemble inside the box. Hopefully you do t lift the box until you ID every part.
Seems obvious when your looking into the drink and others explain how to prevent it from happening again.
That or carry spare winches and rebuild kits on board.

My wife has forbidden spare winches.

Thanks for overboard winch part commiserations Jaysen and OQ, and spare winch laughs cape man and Fuzz.
Fortunate to locally source a replacement winch pawl (fingernail sized) and spring this afternoon.
