I am not normally the jealous type but his cnc set up and the vac system could test a boat building saint :D

What you need is a winter place down here.
I would be happy to share some room in the shop so you could build a boat. :D

Richard,

I'm tring to wrap my head around installing the deck.

I see you glassed over the deck and rub rail. What else did you do to install the deck to the hull?

I was getting the idea you only need to glue the deck to the frames and battens.

Thanks,
Bob.

Correct that is enough but the rubrail and the breasthooks are places where you get the opportunity to make it pretty by playing with different wood colors and varnish.

Hi Bob,
The screw holes are left over from snugging down the deck to the batten strips when I was gluing down the deck and gunwales.
I removed the screws and filled the holes prior to glassing.
The strip that the decks sit on is continuous all the way around the boat.
It is interrupted only at the unions to the bulkheads.
I’m not a big fan of the little 2-3” long chunks of wood to glue decks to. To me it’s an invitation to cracks...

I agree with Richard on the cleats. If you have a table saw why bother with all those little pieces? I ripped down clear Fir on an angle, approximately 20 degrees, and used 2 lengths per side notched into the bulkheads. If I had 18' material I would have gone the full length. Notched into the bulk heads they barely need clamps.

Richard and seaslug,

I had planned on installing a shear clamp (inwale) to glue down the deck. My deck will sit on top of the rub rail (glued). I will be installing a Tessilmare Rub Rail to protect the edge (deck) and wood rub rail.

Thanks again.... Bob.

seaslug,

Why Fir? I was/have been using pine on the other builds.

Thanks, Bob.
