Today, I worked on cockpit stuff.
This is a welded strapped angle iron. It is riveted to the beam.

Angle iron or aluminium?
Currently building Jacques Mertens ST21 "Skinnydip". Boating adventures: Splash testing and using 'Skinnydip, as a basis of further building refinement; Adams 44’ sailing sloop "Great Sandy" (cruising and maintaining); Iain Oughtred Feather Pram "Mini Dip" (building); Jacques Mertens R13 "Wood Duck" (built and due for maintenance).

Stainless angle iron and stainless strapping with aluminum rivets into aluminum beam. Some galvanics might occur in the rivet or in the holes in the beam.. time will tell

Any reputable aluminium mast and spar builder will be able to advise on the longevity of SS and Al combos in marine environments.
My understanding is that they are at times failures waiting to happen, but I'm no expert, hence the suggestion to check with one.
Congratulations on the huge hull and cabin assembly milestone.

The company wouldn't even talk to me and would only give me the name of a distributor. They generally only sell to large boat manifacturers.glossieblack wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 3:37 am Any reputable aluminium mast and spar builder will be able to advise on the longevity of SS and Al combos in marine environments.
