Texas Flats Boat
Re: Texas Flats Boat
Nice work!!! Jeff
Re: Texas Flats Boat
Sorry for the late reply.
The design is rated at max. 115 HP but if a 150 is in the same weight range, it would work.
Set back will vary between 4 and 6", most XF20 owners reported that 4" works well. The XF22 tunnel is the same than in the XF20 and I expect the same rise at the tunnel exit -> 4".
This boat has been modified, it has a lower sheer. As such, the transom is not supported as well as in the original design: the hull sides offer less support to the transom.
I would pay attention to the transom knees and corner laminations. Aim for very stiff angles there, increase the number of glass layers.

Re: Texas Flats Boat
Thanks, Jeff. Thanks, Jacques. Will stiffen the knees accordingly.
Re: Texas Flats Boat
Jacques also mentioned the corners of the transom so do not forget to add a couple extra layers of fiberglass where it meets the sides, if you go with 150HP.
Also agree with Jeff nice looking work. Keep the pictures coming and us informed on how your doing the guys love boat porn.

Re: Texas Flats Boat
I had planned to build a 12" tall raised bilge area for rigging and life jacket storage. Took the opportunity to also help reinforce the transom by extending the sides all the way to the hull and up to the "F" frame in the event a heavier motor is installed. Hopefully this will be an improvement without much added weight. It won't be glassed in for a while so if I'm missing something, feel free to share ideas on improvements. Also started fitting the below-deck fuel tank. Looks small but it's 35 gallons.
Have been updating the plan as I go. Current sketch attached. Middle shaded area is fuel tank and outer quadrants are possible foamed compartments.

Re: Texas Flats Boat
Today it is warmer in Kenai Alaska than it is in Tyler Texas. I have good friends who moved to the Tyler area. I called them to ask if they needed to come home and warm up
