SK14 in N Florida

After sitting on the fence for quite some time, I finally ordered my kit. Unpacked it today and cut out all the parts. As a first time builder I am looking forward to the build. I have time to work on the project so I hope to progress at a good pace and look forward to using this space to keep me on track. I am going to use this as a micro skiff, poling flats and coastal creeks. and would really love to hear advice from someone using theirs in this manner.

Nice. I'm there every few weeks for work. Graves has the best burger I've ever had!

They have made them the same since I was a kid. Graves was originally our Drive In Movie on the same site.

Good work in making a start! I have been itching to build a boat since high school, I always found excuses not to.
Wish I had done it sooner, I'm finding the whole process very enjoyable.
As the old saying goes- you can't finish without a start.

If anyone can help me out with this: for some reason these photos will not post properly. When I take a photo with my phone (iphone) and send it to my email, i can download to my computer and upload with no issues. Fotofinish sent me these 4 photos but they will not upload the same way. They are much smaller files than the ones from my phone so size shouldn't be an issue. They are also both Jpeg file type.

Sometimes I get the same..
Android or Windows, don't know either why it happens.

fotofinish, Welcome to the forum.

Try uploading them to the Gallery first, then transferring them to your thread.

I did, in response to a post I saw here, attempt to upload them to the gallery before I contacted Reid. I frequently upload photos using methods similar to those used here with no issue.

Reid spent a whole bunch of time on this yesterday and was not able to get the photos loaded. I am hoping Jaysen sees this thread and offers to upload for you. He seems to have a method that always works!!! Jeff

Probably been noted here before but while sanding the inside corners of fillets this morning, I knew I needed a better way. A Dremel tool with flex shaft and one of the 5/8" drum sleeves makes neat and quick work of this job. And the sleeve proved to be long lasting.

Welcome foto, thats a fun boat to build my son and I built one. We just remodeled it for an outboard. Looks like your making good progress.

If you don’t have one I would definitely recommend purchasing a vibe saw it will be your best friend.

Also I found that during assembly small tack welds with thickened epoxy work great then I came back all wet on wet no need for sanding fillets. It’s a very easy process.

After a few months when I was unable to work on the boat, I have finally been able to get back to it. Got some primer on the top side this week and it feels like a milestone. Looks like I will need very little additional fairing. My motor clamp needs a thicker transom than the 3/4 inch. Does anyone have any design ideas for making it look nice and making it functional. I am thinking of using ash for the pad since its pretty hard. I have seen one with recesses for the motor clamp pads to land in for increased security. I am thinking of making the bottom edge mirror the scupper top curve but with a longer radius. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks, that's nice looking work. Did you use a hole saw for the clamp pad holes. I enjoyed your launch video as well.

Thanks, and yes, I used a hole saw on the top layer of ply.

Flipped and ready for topcoat. Thanks to BrianC for the clamp pad inspiration. I am now really glad I primed the top for paint before I flipped it to graphite.

Thanks Cape Man. I kind of expected being excited when I finished the build And I am very pleased with the boat and really look forward to seeing how it will perform. I didn't expect to be a little down because I don't have the boat to work on anymore. Guess I'm going to build another boat in a few months......after I catch a few reds out of this one.
