best/lightest 25hp 4-stroke?

Post by Rob Eades »

The more I think about it,the more I think I should limit the next build to 25hp.what motor would you choose and why?

I fully understand the practicality of an old 25 two smoke but I just don't want to go that way.

Anybody have any experience wi the e-tec 25?

I have an ETEC 25 on my GF-16 and love it.

You do know that ETEC's are not 4 strokes though right? That is why I bought mine.

They are about the same weight as a comparable 4 stroke, but the torque is amazing from this little motor.

How is it compared to a 4 stroke noise wise?

Do you know if the 25 and 30 are the same weight?

Also just bought an Etec still didn't run it but if I have to believe my dealer it's very quiet, don't know if this is true but he also told me they had to build in a alarm because in the earlier versions people tend to start the engine while it was already running.
As for the weight both engines goes from 66 to 83 kg

Yes, I believe the 15, 25 and 30 are all the same motor with different computer programing. I'm not really sure what the market is for a 150+ pound 15 hp, but someone must have made the case for one.

As far as noise, I think it is about the same at idle as most small 4 strokes. I really haven't been around many though. It is a lot quieter than the 1999 25 hp 2 stroke JohnnyRude that it replaced though.

Hi Rob,
I sold my od16 to my brother in law, who promptly ripped out my Suzi 30hp and replaced it with a 30Hp etec. I was amazed at the quietness of this motor and its torque, my impression was that at 3/4 throttle it was doing the same as wot of the Suzi 2 stroke. I am no tech head about motors but I did notice the difference between these two!! Plenty of more experienced people on this forum who can give you far more technical advice, but I loved how quiet the etec was and the get up and go for the dory. Hope this helps
Richard
Built od16, d5 and 1/3 of a gt27
