Evan or Jacques,
Since I am leaning towards a custom aluminum tank for my HMD19 in the space per plans. Notional dimensions are 24" wide X 30" long X 13" high forward, 10" high aft and veed at the bottom, essentially the same shape as the bottom. This translates to 4.16 cubic feet = 31 gallons. I am concerned about trim with 300 lbs in that area. I am OK ?

Re: HMD19 Gas Tank
Don't use a 31 gallon tank unless you are traveling very long distances.
A typical 9.9 high thrust motor uses about 3/4 GPH at cruise throttle (3/4). A 6 or 8 HP will use even less. So a 31 gal tank might give you 50 hrs motoring. At say 5 knots for arguments sake that's 250 miles. Which is a long distance.
Here's a quote from somebody using a 9.9 high thrust on a bigger heavier boat "I have the high thrust version of a "white" Yamaha 9.9hp on my sadler 25 and have measured fuel consumption over two 25 mile trips at 2.5 litres per hour cruising at 5 knots
Have 40 litre tank which gives plenty of range ". For those that speak gallons, thats 0.66 GPH.
Modern North American gasoline formulations have ethanol in them which goes bad very quickly if not used (a month or two is not uncommon in hot climates). So I'd pick a tank size that you hope to use up the fuel in say 3 months maximum.
Or don't fill it up and have that reserve capacity if you do plan on a long trip between fuel stops. It might trim a bit aft with that much weight but I bet a couple of people, groceries, and gear etc can be shifted slightly to trim the boat flat.

Re: HMD19 Gas Tank
Hi Evan,
Thank you for this. My intent is indeed long range cruising. Always wanted to do the Ottawa (Ottawa River) / Montreal / St. Lawrence River / Thousand Islands / Kingston / Rideau Canal back to Ottawa loop. Even Ottawa / Quebec City and the Inter Coastal US waterways at some point. A 12 gal tank makes me nervous.

The standard tank gives you a great range but if you want a safety margin or to increase it, keep a couple of 5 gallon jugs in the cockpit.
Also, think of an extra tank, a flexible one with a little manual transfer pump. Those tanks are reliable. They take no room or add any weight while empty, are easy to install and you use them only as needed.

All of those places you mention have fuel readily available. You won't need to carry 30 gallons. A spare 5 gal can would get you to the next fuel stop easily. No need to haul around all that extra weight.
We did the 'Golden Triangle (Ottawa/Montreal/Kingston/Ottawa)' a few years ago. It's 660 kms from start to finish. Great trip!

Re: HMD19 Gas Tank
I second Jacques suggestion; I have the 12 gallon tank on this, cruise for 8-10 hours on 3-3.5 gallons...(9.9 Merc Prokicker)...
