Try some Sea Foam. It's good stuff. As there is a pretty good chance something is plugged up, I'd run it a little stronger than they recommend. I used it on a clogged up Yamaha generator, cleaned it right up. You can get it at Wal Mart, auto parts, etc.

Dear TomW - I have been away but back now and will look at these things. In all fairness, I think that the engine is running as well as it ever has now. I know that my brother tested the boat in the "creek" which is tidal and probably a lot of that difference in speed and rpm will be to do with whether he was going into the current or with it.
Do you feel that the rpms are really high for the low end speeds that the boat is getting?
Do you think that Ken at prop gods would exchange for the Red4 - he says the lowest pitch stainless 4 blade he can get will be a 14 pitch.
Should I try raising the engine a notch or two?
What sort of damage will over propping do if I never open the boat up fully?

This is from the Solas website - engine age, rpm and gear ratio - mine is a 2001 - so if I could squeeze 350 rpm more out of it I would be in the "safe zone"...
