looking at a 25'

Post by Ksmith1 »

i am going to look at a 26' bateau on boattrader. the boat looks good from the pictures on line. The boat is being sold by a dealer not the builder. So i am curious as to why someone would build a boat and then sell it. What should i look for? Keep in mind i have no experience in boat building.

I'm sure you can get good advice here on what to look for, but in your case the cost of a marine surveyor would be worth it, if you are serious about this boat.

If the hobby is boatbuilding you gotta make room for the next one to build! Also moving, money is tight, etc.

But like pee wee said, for a boat that size where you don't know about who built it having a professional take a look is a good idea.

That is one sweet boat - sure couldn't build it for that price - do get it surveyed though!

Perhaps the builder did not post his build on the website, but it sure looks like the bateau design. From the pictures it appears whoever built this boat does excellent work. I agree have a survey done. Perhaps you can ask the seller what type of plywood/epoxy was used, any pictures of the build, were all mounting points overdrilled and filled, etc....
